RGB (abbreviation for red, green and blue) refers to the light colours or the colours of the individual LEDs on the LED chip, for example, in LED strips.
With these strips and a corresponding control, you can create a wide variety of colour tones by dimming the individual colours differently.
White light is obtained by 100% superimposition (additive colour mixing) of red, green and blue.
However, applying this method in practice, results in a white that is not particularly pleasing to the human eye.
Instead, the technology of luminescence conversion gives a better result. This involves using blue LEDs and coating them with a luminescent dye (phosphors), which, depending on the exact composition of the dye, results in a range of very pure white tones. For this reason, in addition to the RGB LED strips, there are also so-called RGBW LED strips (red, green, blue, white). On these strips, there is a white chip in addition to the chip with the red, green and blue LEDs.
