Lightning current & surge arresters for photovoltaic systems.
Special PV lightning current and surge arresters which are designed as test class I + II (B + C) or test class II (C) are compliant with the applicable standards for the proper installation of PV systems.
It is imperative to implement protective measures to ensure the long-term functionality of PV systems, which are often exposed and cover extensive areas. The potential danger for PV systems comes not only from direct lightning strikes, but also from indirect lightning strikes that generate dangerous overvoltages and, in the worst case, can lead to a total failure of the systems. To avoid this failure scenario, surge arrester solutions are integrated into the system.
In many photovoltaic systems, the load-break switch required by the IEC 60364-7-712 standard is located in the inverter. As a result, the lines between the solar modules and the inverter remain live even after disconnection.
