Schrack Design helps you to plan your electrical distribution board enclosures with ease and makes sure they comply with applicable standards. Besides creating assembly and wiring diagrams you can verify the thermal design of your planned distribution board according to IEC TR 60890 and thus meet a requirement of EN 61439 (up to 630 A). Documentation is included and you have a database of over 10,000 products at your disposal.

Functions of Schrack Design

We are constantly adding functionalities to Schrack Design in order to make your working with the tool even more comfortable over time. Next time you start the software, version 2.0 will be automatically installed as soon as you click on "Update" to confirm the installation.

  • Live thermal calculation: the software displays the maximum temperature within the enclosure LIVE at all times. The corresponding calculations are done in accordance with EN 61439. If the design exceeds the allowed temperature limit at any time, a warning is displayed immediately.

  • Ventilation systems: if the temperature in the enclosure exceeds the maximum allowed, it is possible to add a ventilation system to your project. Schrack Design automatically suggest a suitable cooling unit. Adding a ventilation unit automatically recalculates the values and the temperature drops.

  • Anti-condensation heater: if the minimum ambient temperature at the planned mounting site of the enclosure is below 15°C, Schrack Design will suggest a suitable heating unit to prevent condensation from forming in the enclosure.

  • Extended documentation: in addition to the already provided documentation version 2.0.0 also includes a positions table and a circuit directory. The positions table helps to set up the project. The circuit directory serves as a key to the interior of the enclosure, indicating at a glance the purpose of each device if the planning was properly done.

  • Edit icons: icons can be edited, which allows a customisation of the plan. For example, icons for a single article may be split and allocated several times.

  • Linking: by linking lines it is now easily possible to plan large projects that cover multiple pages. You can select lines and use the "Create links" option to connect lines. Projects can now extend across several pages.

  • Replace article: Picked the wrong article? – No problem! Use the "Replace article" option to replace the product in all plans in an instant.

  • Article notes: it is possible to add notes to every single article to differentiate between "identical" articles. These notes are visible in all drawing views and are also included in the documentation.

  • Guide: you can build a compliant distribution board in 3 easy steps. First, you specify the general conditions. In the next step you set the busbar lengths. If the enclosure then remains within the maximum allowed temperature, it complies with the standard. If it exceeds the temperature limit, you can add a ventilation system in the last step.

 

    1. Selecting Articles

    There are over 10,000 products in the article database which you can use to design your distribution board. You start by choosing either a distribution board enclosure or a suitable equipment body for your project. Then you add all the required components from the article database, your favourites or your own articles (Product/Article list can be found on the left-hand side and uses the same categories as the main catalogue). 

    You can use the search functionality to look for products using the article number, the name or simply keywords. If you need to change the quantity of an article, you can do so when you select the product or afterwards for the defined products in the parts list (double-click on the article before you select it or - if already in the parts list - right-click on the article).

    2. Creating the Parts Lists

    The Parts List functionality helps you to design one or several distribution boards independently from one another. It takes only a few steps to add or replace articles, change the quantity of an article or use pre-configured distribution boards.

    If you select a modular distribution board with an article number for the complete enclosure (e.g.: EVN 3U24NE, IL164324NS), the system will display the parts list containing all the individual components of the enclosure. You can replace or remove individual articles from this list.

    You can also use the outlined star icon to the right to define a product as a Favourite. It will be displayed in your personal article list (to the left of the product database) and will be available as a Favourite for you to use in future projects.

    It is also possible to import a CSV file. This uploads your complete parts list into Schrack Design with a single click.

    3. Live Thermal Calculation

    Schrack Design monitors the temperature of the distribution board in real time and immediately displays a warning if the enclosure's temperature exceeds the allowed maximum. This live thermal calculation is performed already when articles are added to the parts list. If the enclosure temperature exceeds the allowed maximum, the system displays a warning. To recalibrate the distribution board, click on the icon that has turned red and follow the three steps of our Guide to make the system compliant with standards. Our Guide is a helpful assistant to solve the problem.

    4. Guide

    The Thermal Calculation Guide offers 3 easy steps which help you to recalibrate your distribution board to comply with standards.

    In the first step, you can adjust influencing factors such as the ambient temperature, mounting type and reduction factor. These values have to match the actual conditions on site. It is also possible to replace the enclosure box and e.g. choose a larger body.

    In the second step, you can add the busbars or adjust the length of previously added busbars to calculate the actual temperature.

    In the third step, the software will suggest a suitable ventilation unit, if necessary, to lower the temperature to the range as specified in the standards.

    5. Designing the Front View of the Board

     

    To design the front view of your distribution board simply drag the icons of all the distribution board components into the drawing window "Front View" and position them as required. These design icons of the articles are available in the parts list to the right of the article. By double-clicking the article in the parts list you can easily snap the icons one after each other.

     

    This positions a new design icon directly next to the previously selected icon. You only need to position the first icon manually. If the distribution board contains more than one rows of modules, the first icon of each row must be positioned manually.

     

     

    6. Creating the Wiring Diagram

     

    Create a single- or multi-line wiring diagram for your distribution board. Proceed in the same way as with the front view and drag the icons of your distribution board articles into the drawing window. As in the design of the front view it is also possible to automatically align the icons next to each other. There are several additional functionalities to support professional design planning. For example, it is possible to add a note to an article, which will be added automatically in the documentation (circuit directory). You can also link lines, which allows planning large projects. To avoid crossing lines all wiring icons can be individually edited, moved and placed.

     

    The different connection types are pre-defined for the outputs and can be defined with an easy-to-use selection option. A simple click adds them to your design.

     

    If you select a modular distribution board with an article number for the complete enclosure (e.g.: EVN 3U24NE, IL164324NS), the system will display the parts list containing all the individual components of the enclosure.

     

    Depending on your requirements, you can then modify the inserts in the distribution enclosure or replace individual components with others; e.g.: you might want to replace a slotted front plate 3G3 IL051303-H with a blind front plate 3B3 IL056303. To do so, simply search the product list and select the desired article.

     

    The original set of articles of the distribution enclosures, however, remains in the list.

    7. Text Changes

     

    Texts can now be inserted much more easily - and inserted texts can be adjusted in size, style and colour.

     

    8. Modular Distribution Board

     

    If you select a modular distribution board with an article number for the complete enclosure (e.g.: EVN 3U24NE, IL164324NS), the system will display the parts list containing all the individual components of the enclosure.

     

    Depending on your requirements, you can then modify the inserts in the distribution enclosure or replace individual components with others; e.g.: you might want to replace a slotted front plate 3G3 IL051303-H with a blind front plate 3B3 IL056303. To do so simply search the product list and select the desired article.

     

    The original set of articles of the distribution enclosures, however, remains in the list.

     

    9. Thermal Calculation

    You can make sure that your distribution board design, including the electrical components added, complies with the applicable standards. To do so click on the "Thermal Calculation" button (below the parts list).

    This calculation verifies and checks whether the enclosure body selected is able to dissipate the overall heat output, i.e. the total generated by all included components and their respective power losses. A message will inform you if this is not the case.

    This would mean that you have to reduce the number of components or modify the dimensions of the enclosure body. Alternatively, you might reduce the rated diversity factor RDF.

    What to consider in the calculation:

    • All included electrical components

    • Definition of the length of built-in and required busbars and cables

    • Mounting type of the enclosure (uncovered, wall-mounted,...)

    • Operating temperature


      Only if you consider all the indicated factors you can be sure that the results of the check actually indicate that your distribution enclosure complies with the standards.

      Data for the Rating Plate

      Regulations require a new rating plate to be attached to distribution enclosures. To be able to print such a new rating plate that includes all the necessary data (see section …), in the parts list window click on the cogwheel in the upper right (displayed in the same row as your selected enclosure body).

      This will open the "Properties" window where you can complete the data.

    10. Printing the IEC 890 + A1 Report

    To print your IEC 890+A1 report for the distribution board simply use the print functionality. The Distribution Board/Test Report will contain the front view, wiring diagram (multi- or single-line wiring diagram), parts list, positions table, circuit directory and the power loss calculation according to IEC 890 + A1.

    Last but not least the report will contain a rating plate with all the data you have provided for the calculated and rated distribution enclosure. Simply print the rating plate on a suitable printer and affix the plate inside the enclosure.



    11.Immediate Printing of Rating Plate

    Schrack Design lets you print the rating plate of the distribution board quickly and efficiently!

    12. Ordering the Distribution Enclosure

    As soon as the distribution enclosure is finished and meeting the standards, you can simply order all the required Schrack products in the Online Shop. If you click on the basket, the system will generate a corresponding parts list in your personal Schrack Technik User Account.
