They are C-surge protectors (arresters) with test class II, T2, which are used to protect electrical units from transient overvoltages. These mostly come about as a result of atmospheric discharge or switching operations.
When selecting and installing arrestors, the following Austrian standards are applicable: ÖVE/ÖNORM E 8001-1+A1 ( erection of electrical installations, especially Section 18) and ÖVE/ÖNORM E 8049-1 (lightning protection for structural plants, especially lightning current protection). These were legally brought into line within the Austrian Electrical Ordinance 2002 and- legally speaking- represent the current state of the art of technology and are the basis of all implementations. VDE directives (e.g. VDE 0185, etc.) are not permissible in Austria
